In 2016, the Pear Blosom Festival will include three cycling events. Named "Pedals 'n Pears," the rides will vary in length and difficulty, but they'll have one thing in common: they'll journey through pear blossoms. All of the rides will begin in downtown Medford and finish at Hawthorne Park:  The Comice Family Ride, approximately seven miles in length, will follow relatively flat terrain. The Bartlett, approximately 30 miles, will go from downtown to South Stage Road, then head south on Griffin Creek Road, from where it will take two loops along Carpenter Hill and Dark Hollow roads, before returning to Hawthorne Park. The Royal Riviera, approximately 62 miles, will follow a similar route as the Bartlett ride to begin with, but will turn west on West Griffin Creek Road and follow a route to the Applegate Valley, where it will pass Cantrall-Buckley Park on the Applegate River before returning to Medford via Little Applegate Road and Sterling Creek Road. Plans call for the rides to start at 9 a.m. on the closed streets of downtown Medford prior to the Pear Blossom Parade. All the rides will have support staff along the way and use the Bear Creek Greenway from Coyote Trails School of Nature at US Cellular Park to Hawthorne Park for the finish. Organizers of the Pedals 'n Pears event are local members of the Lyoness community, supported by the Lyoness Child and Family Foundation. The Pedals 'n Pears committee will select a Rogue Valley nonprofit organization to receive proceeds from the event. For more information, see pedalsnpears.org or call 541-821-2169.
