Help available to quit smoking Wednesday Nov 16, 2016 at 3:56 PM Local organizations will share information and tools to quite smoking from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Jackson County Health and Human Services Building, 140 S. Holly St., Medford. People who smoke or want to help a friend or family member quit are invited. The event is part of the annual Great American Smokeout, in which smokers nationwide quit smoking on the third Thursday in November. About 40 million Americans still smoke cigarettes, and tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the world, according to the American Cancer Society.
