The gallery also is a working studio and offers classes. "We're super excited about Third Friday," Molloy says. "To help get things going, we've joined the folks with Art in Bloom and are taking things into the alley, calling it the Middleford Block Party. There will be a lot of merchants, artists will be working on new pieces, and there will be live music by the Shelley Kristen Band. We want the block party to include small downtown businesses, not just galleries." The festivities will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 17. Food and beverages will be available, and kids' activities make this event family friendly. Wine and appetizers will be available inside 30 North, and access to the gallery is through its Central Avenue entrance or the patio on Middleford Alley. Downtown Market Co. will offer wine tasting on its patio, which also faces the brick alley. Call 541-500-1230 or find 30 North Gallery on Facebook.  Just off Middleford on North Bartlett, visitors will find Jym Duane Photography, a small shop with a big selection of fine art photography. Farther down Middleford, LIFEArt will display paintings and other art by young artists in its after-school program. Two downtown galleries — Art du Jour Gallery, 213 E. Main St., and Rogue Gallery & Art Center, 40 S. Bartlett St. — will be open from 5 to 8 p.m.  Rogue Gallery will host a reception for Southern Oregon artist Vera Melnyk, whose mosaics will be displayed through Aug. 14 in its community gallery. Melnyk uses stained glass,  hand-cut opaque glass tiles, ceramics, marble, slate and Venetian glass to create elegant pieces that are rich in color and depth. Melnyk began working as a painter in 2005, but it wasn't long before she traded paints and brushes for hammers, nippers, tile cutters and glass grinders. Her first pieces were typical garden tables and vases, but somewhere in the process they ended up as mosaics to hang on walls. The possibilities opened for Melnyk and gave her a myriad of options. Bruce Bayard's "Digital Deconstruction" will be displayed in the Rogue's main gallery through Aug. 7. The exhibit includes digitally altered wide-scale landscapes and photographs, along with stills of video clips that are layered and composed using random algorithms.  Bayard is an established artist in the Northwest, creating images that are mysterious and provocative from multiple layers of photography.  Wine and appetizers will be served at the reception. Call 541-772-8118 or see www.roguegallery.org for information. “Landmarks and Trademarks of the Rogue Valley” is the theme for July’s new exhibit at Art du Jour Gallery. Look for works in various media by regional artists Linda Evans, Penny Simmons, Dodie Hamilton, Ginny Matheson, Millie Clarke and others. Favorite Rogue Valley locations include Grizzly Peak, Pompadour Bluff, Lithia Park, Heuner’s Farm and Crater Lake. Still life and figure paintings by Jacksonville artist Anne Brooke will be featured through July in Art du Jour's Salon Gallery. Another well known Rogue Valley artist, Brooke's trademark work includes skillful drawing, use of vibrant color and sometimes calligraphy. The artist has included hints of the styles of Paul Gaugin — famous for his lush tropical scenes — and pointillist Georges Seurat in her paintings.
