Raider roundup SOU gains third place in Cascade volleyball tournament NAMPA, Idaho -- Southern Oregon University placed third in the Cascade Conference volleyball championships with a 9-15, 15-12, 15-10, 7-15, 15-10 victory over Albertson College. Southern Oregon's Susan Rodinsky improved her single-season kill mark to 445 and teammate Sheri Miller increased hers to 437. Rodinsky, middle blocker Nola Miller and junior setter Erin Lytle were selected to the all-conference team for the second straight year. Earlier in the tournament, the No. 3-seeded Raiders earned a first-round victory over Oregon Tech, 15-5, 15-11, 15-7. Western Baptist knocked off Southern Oregon 12-15, 15-5, 16-14, 15-11, sending the Raiders to the third- and fourth-place match on Saturday. Women's basketball SOUTHERN OREGON 100, BETHANY COLLEGE 54 -- At Scotts Valley, Calif., Nada Janackovic recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds and paced four Southern Oregon players in double figures. The Raiders posted their second win in two days to open the season. SOU, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA preseason poll, led 50-23 at halftime. "We put some pretty good pressure on at the beginning of the game," Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett said. "We had some transition baskets. We executed very well on our offensive end." Other Raiders in double figures were Denise Barry (20 points), Caitlin Curran (17) and Lindsay Taylor (10). Curran, a junior walk-on from Shasta College, showed range by sinking four 3-pointers. Sophomore point guard Ali Richards dished out six assists. The former Phoenix High star also added four points. The Raiders are back in action Friday with a first-round game against Humboldt State in the four-team, round-robin Coslet Classic at Chico, Calif.
