Shockwave sticks it to Heat YAKIMA, Wash. - The Southern Oregon Heat's season continued its downward spiral Saturday as the Yakima Shockwave trounced the Heat 51-6 in National Indoor Football action. Yakima's stifling defense limited Southern Oregon to 60 yards of offense (minus 16 in the first half). Jason Murdock's threw three touchdown passes to three different receivers to lead the offensive charge for the Shockwave. Jamley Austin scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for Yakima. For 57 minutes of the game, Yakima's defense looked as if it would post just the second shutout of the league's inaugural season. Only a long completion setting up a shorter touchdown toss stopped the improbable. The teams combined for 171 yards of penalties and early in the third, things got heated after Murdock threw his second interception of the contest. Yakima receiver Nian Taylor followed Southern Oregon's Jame Curoso and continued to jaw at the linebacker. Punches were thrown and Taylor ended up without his helmet and out of the game, along with Curoso. Yakima improved to 3-0 for the season against the Heat. The Shockwave routed Southern Oregon 65-22 the first time these two teams met. At 6-6, Yakima has not only inched back into the wild-card race, it also has a shot at the Western Division title. The Heat fell to 1-10 on the season with games at Tupelo, Miss. (July 7), and Rapid City, S.D. (July 12) still left on the schedule.
