The county's 1.1 percent increase roughly matched that of the state as a whole, which reported an increase of 42,171, bringing Oregon's population to 3.97 million. Medford remained the eighth-largest city in the state, with a population of 78,557, gaining just above half of the county's overall increase. Portland totaled 619,360 residents, followed by Salem (161,637), Eugene (160,561), Gresham (109,892), Hillsboro (99,393), Beaverton (95,109), Bend (84,080), Medford, and Springfield (60,263). Every city in Jackson County increased in population, ranging from Medford's 1,126 hike to Butte Falls' increase of two. Ashland had the second-largest increase, 174, followed closely by Central Point at 172. Rural Jackson County increased by 449 people. Josephine County increased to 83,599, a bump of 328 people. Grants Pass recorded an increase of 211 to push its population to 35,272. The only other incorporated city in Josephine County, Cave Junction, increased by four people to 1,886.
