Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 12, 2005 Motor home driver dies in Highway 140 crash One person died Thursday afternoon in a crash on Highway 140 that sent a motor home off a 50-foot embankment. The crash occurred at around 4:35 p.m. near milepost 31.5. A 2003 motor home was driving eastbound when for unknown reasons it crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2004 Subaru. The motor home then drove off a steep embankment and fell 50 feet through a wooded area before striking a tree, police said. The driver of the motor home was pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s identity is will be released today after the next of kin has been notified, police said. The Subaru’s driver, Michael Melvin Osterman, 48, of Medford, was not injured. His two passengers, Bethel A. Mixon, 51, and Westley L. Mixon, 12, both of Jacksonville, were taken by Mercy Flights Ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. Both were treated for minor injuries. The crash area was temporarily closed as wreckage was cleared from the road. Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Butte Falls and Lake Creek fire departments. OSP troopers from the Central Point Patrol Office are continuing an investigation, officials said.
