Commentary: Woke Culture By Robert H. Updated: Jun 02, 2022 04:13 PM A A As Larry Mendte points out in this Commentary, the concept of "woke" began a long time ago, and was noble in spirit. It meant to be aware and be vigilant of the pervasive racism in our country, and America in the early 20th Century was blatantly racist with segregation and a "us" and "them" that should never have existed. "Woke" had a resurgence over ten years ago, again, in and for the African-American community, but in a thoroughly American tale, the expression was co-opted by any and every group and here we are today where polls show the country thinks we've become too pre-occupied, the term ubiquitious for any and every cause. The over-exposure is being seized upon by political candidates who proudly pronounce "woke" has run its course. Which is too bad, because ending racism in America is a mission not yet accomplished. Larry Mendte tackles all this and offers his perspective in this Commentary, we invite you to watch, then write Larry @[email protected] and let him know if you agree or disagree with his take.
