Bright or glittery - it's a holiday at your fingertips By MEG LANDERS Mail Tribune For Angela Roth, the holiday spirit is at her fingertips. "Next weekend I have a Christmas party," says the 21-year-old Medford resident who has selected a bright red nail polish with white candy canes air-brushed on top. Angela is one of the many people at Beauty Nails in the Rogue Valley Mall looking to paint their nails festive. From glitters to mood polish, from crimson to Christmas trees, those looking to adorn their nails have lots of options. "I get nine or 10 people a day," says Lesley Nguyen, who's been an employee at Beauty Nails for a year. This time of year she sees a lot more people asking for red nail polish, she says, in addition to Christmas decals like Santa Claus, or airbrushed designs. Customers should expect the process to take about 45 minutes, she says. Jennifer Tucker of Central Point is getting red polish with a wreath on each of her thumbs. She's paying $22 for her nails, which will last about two weeks before they'll need a touch up. Nail maintenance can really add up, she says, but she's got it covered. "Mom pays for it," says Tucker. Roth says sometimes nails break, and repairing can be an added cost. "Usually the only time they break is if you don't come in and have them filled, if you're not taking care of them," she says, adding that acrylic nails are pretty durable. She's still able to use her hands to operate machinery at work and to play the violin. "You can really get used to them," she says. A nail-polisher since age 11, Roth says it helps lift her attitude. "It makes me feel more feminine, I guess," she says. "It gives me a sense like I look nicer. I feel more complete. Like when I have a nice outfit and nice jewelry, and nails, I feel complete.
