Freshman hurler fuels Eagle Point softball sweep EAGLE POINT -- It took freshman pitcher Jamie Williams a game or two to establish her confidence with the Eagle Point High softball team. Now that she has it, opposing batters are paying the price. Williams held Lakeview to one run and five hits in leading the Eagles to a 7-1 victory in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Thursday. The Eagles completed a sweep with a 6-5 win in the nightcap. Eagle Point wasted no time scoring runs. Steffani Presley's three-run double and Amie Mapes' ensuing double gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the opening game, and they made it 6-0 in the second. Presley, a sophomore third baseman, went 3-for-3 in the first game and Mapes went 3-for-4. In Game 2, the Eagles rallied from an early 4-0 deficit, taking the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning. Mapes tallied one of the runs on a wild pitch and Ginny Hoye and Cassie Dodenhoff scored on an error for the tying and go-ahead runs. The Eagles finished the preseason with a 4-3 record and play host to Grants Pass in their Southern Oregon Conference opener on Tuesday.
