Last-second basket propels Glide past Phoenix GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL PHOENIX -- Glide's Kelsy Croll made life miserable for the Phoenix Pirates throughout the second half Tuesday night, scoring 15 of her 18 points. But it was Croll's lob to 6-foot-2 teammate Kara McManus in the waning seconds that finished off the Pirates. McManus missed from point-blank with four seconds to play, gathered in the rebound and went back up with the winning shot as the Wildcats claimed a 54-52 non-conference girls win. Sutton Jackson's three-point play with 1:05 left tied it up for the Pirates (3-3), who then had a chance to take the lead in the final minute. "We wanted to run the clock down for the last shot with about 15 seconds, unless we had a really good look at the basket," Phoenix coach Kyle Walker said. But the Pirates failed to convert, giving Glide the final opportunity. Croll, a 5-10 junior guard, scored 10 points in the third quarter as Wildcats overcame a 29-25 halftime deficit. "It looked like we were in pretty good shape and then Croll got hot," Walker said. "She went on top (of the key) and started shooting over our guards, who are 5-3 and 5-4. She hit back-to-back 3-pointers that gave them the lead. We finally had to go with a bigger lineup." Bones led the Pirates with 21 points. GLIDE (56) -- Croll 18, McManus 14, Holm 9, Lathers 8, M. Prospect (4-2) used a full-court press in the first quarter and charged out to a 17-2 lead. The Cougars called off the press after that but still led 33-4 at halftime. Prospect forced 33 steals, with Monica Applegate getting nine and Sarah Gordon eight. Jessica Kraemer contributed 11 points, six assists and five rebounds for Prospect, while 5-4 Addie Stockebrand pulled down 13 rebounds. Senior guard Faith Hashek paced New Hope with 11 points.
