When I answered the phone, a man asked for Mr. Evers. Since neither my father or brother have ever lived here, I said there was no Mr. Evers here, so he asked for Mrs. Evers. I asked who was calling and he gave a name and said he was from Social Security. I said Social Security does not telephone clients and hung up. Since there was no telephone number shown, I could not report this to the authorities. I would hope that others would take notice, and in particular never divulge their Social Security number to anyone over the phone, nor agree to send them money for whatever reason. Dee Evers Jacksonville Two good candidates The Oregon primary is coming up May 17. Already there is plenty of heat at the national level. Closer to home there are two candidates worth keeping an eye on. Pam Marsh will be on the ballot for the 5th District state representative position, now held by Peter Buckley. Pam has an impressive history of working in the political arena at the local level and also contributing greatly to nonprofits that work in the community. You can find her on the Internet. She is currently on the Ashland City Council. Jeff Thomas has filed for Jackson County commissioner position 2. He is a local product and runs a small business in the valley. He was elected to the Medford School Board in 2010 and is currently board chairman. He also can be found on the Internet. Please look into these two qualified candidates. We need good people to represent us. Steve Haskell Ashland I can't vote It seems strange to me that all the voters in this country have to identify themselves as a Republican or Democrat. Someday we will be required to have those initials tattooed on our forehead, telling the world we are Republican or a Democrat. I'm glad my forehead won't be tattooed. Here's why. The self-centered right Republicans like Donald Trump wouldn't buy a glass of water for a homeless person, because he doesn't work to deserve it. Although they claim to be pro-life like I am, they don't want to pay taxes to support social programs to help others. The Democrats, on the other hand, support social programs like I do, but don't support the right to life. The Democrats support abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy and want abortion clinics in high schools. They are big supporters of Planned Parenthood. Be like me and don't vote, just pray for this country. God knows we need it.
