She attended Roseburg schools until her junior year, transferring to Camas Valley High School, where she graduated in 1947. She married Robert (Bob) Meredith in 1953. Irene drove a logging truck and logged with her father. She worked for Greyhound, Safeway, and Crown Zellerbach before her marriage. Later, she went to work at Harry & David in Medford, Ore. from 1969 to 1998. She was a member of the Sams Valley Lioness Club, and she actively participated in her boys' and girls' scouting activities. Superhero, Rock, Mentor, Stud-ette, Mom... She superbly filled a lot of roles. She was known for her strong work ethic, which she and Bob passed on to their children. She believed in playing the hand she was dealt and faced challenges with calm, practical, positive expectation. Her good listening skills served her well, whether "discussing" Black Holes and Calculus with her sons, spending long evenings talking with her sisters and friends, remembering the most amazing details, and much more. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, and genealogy. She found humor in her life every day. Irene and Bob had six children, Pam, Kim, Sam, Tami, Tom, and Jim. Son, Jim and husband, Bob predeceased her. She enjoyed her five grandchildren, and in recent years treasured the joys that her six great-grandchildren brought her. She is survived by her sister Delores Loftin of Winston. Ore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Southern Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Center, 228 N. Holly St., Medford, Ore. Arrangements by Crown Memorial. You can light a candle in her memory at www.anewtradition.com. A Celebration of Life picnic will be held in Medford in the spring.
