PREP ROUNDUP Crater's Oshiro takes girls district lead Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 8, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 8, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News REDMOND — Kiana Oshiro came through for the Crater girls golf team in a big way in the first round of the Class 5A Special District 2 tournament at Eagle Crest Resort Thursday. Oshiro, last season’s runner-up in the Class 6A state tournament for North Medford High, carded a 2-under-par 70 and leads Summit's Madison Odiorne by three shots entering today's final round. Crater's Giles shot a 76, the third-best individual score of the 11-team field, to help the Comets into a tie for third place with a 376. The top four teams and top 10 individuals qualify for the state tournament. Oshiro, who transferred from North Medford last summer, had appeared in just two tournaments for Crater and has played two American Junior Golf Association events this spring. “She found her driver today and kept it in the fairway and when she hits it, it goes a long way,” said Comets coach Brent Bowker. “She put herself in position to score well.” The turning point in Oshiro’s round came following her drive on the ninth hole, which put her about 180 yards out on the par 5. She hit a hybrid to the back of the green and two-putted for birdie to get back to even par. She followed with birdies on Nos. 11, 13 and 14 before bogeying the 15th.
