Bates named to Ways & Means co-chairmanship Dec 10, 2008 12:00 AM A A SALEM — Sen. Alan Bates (D-Ashland) has been appointed co-chairman of the joint Ways & Means Subcommittee on Human Services for the 2009 session of the Oregon Legislature. "Given our current revenue outlook, it's crucial to have someone who understands our health-care systems and the impact that their services have on Oregonians," said Bates, a physician who practices in Medford and who has been an advocate for health-care reform for 25 years. As co-chairman, Bates will be responsible for overseeing the development of the human-services budget for the 2009-2011 biennium. In addition, Bates was appointed a member of the full Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Committee on Health Care & Veterans Affairs.
