Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend October 25, 2005 Meth Watch: Suspect wanted for manufacturing meth EDITOR’S NOTE: Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon, in cooperation with the Mail Tribune and KTVL Channel 10, is participating in "Meth Watch," a program intended to combat the manufacture and sale of methamphetamine in Southern Oregon. Each week, Meth Watch will focus on a person wanted by Jackson or Josephine county law-enforcement agencies for delivery and/or manufacture of methamphetamine. Michael Eric Thompson is wanted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on charges of delivering, manufacturing and possessing meth. He was indicted in December 2001 but never appeared in court to hear charges against him. Bail on the warrant is $50,000. Thompson is described as a white man, 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. The word "joker" is tattooed on his upper left arm. One of his front teeth is missing on the upper left side. The photo shown in today’s newspaper was taken in May 2001. Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case or any other unsolved criminal activity. Callers can remain anonymous. The reward is sponsored by Sonitrol of Southern Oregon. In conjunction with Meth Watch, the Mail Tribune is compiling weekly statistics to demonstrate the effects of methamphetamine on our community. Arrests — Fourteen people were arrested last week and lodged in the Jackson County Jail on meth-related charges. Thirteen were arrested for possessing meth, and one was arrested for possessing meth in addition to possessing, manufacturing and delivering marijuana and delivering marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school. Seven arrests were in conjunction with other criminal charges. Court appearances — Three people appeared in Jackson County Circuit Court last week on indictments charging them with possessing meth. One defendant’s indictment included other criminal charges. Child welfare — The local child welfare office of the state’s Department of Human Services removed three children from two homes last week and placed them into protective custody due to meth use in the family. Addiction recovery — Seventeen meth addicts entered outpatient treatment last week at OnTrack Inc. Three meth addicts completed inpatient treatment last week at Addictions Recovery Center (ARC). Three people were admitted last week to ARC’s sobering center while under the influence of meth.
