The walks start at 1 p.m., last about two hours and cover a mile of moderately strenuous terrain through forests and meadows along Crater Lake's rim. No previous snowshoe experience is required, and snowshoes are provided free of charge. To sign up, call the park visitor center at 541-594-3100. Coyote Trails School of Nature Saturday, April 30: Arbor Day Celebration, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., for all ages, at 2931 S. Pacific Highway, Medford. Highlights include the Tree City USA award presentation, Coyote Trails skills stations and live entertainment. No registration required. Free. Table Rocks hikes Saturday, April 30: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lower Table Rock, "Nature on the Rocks." We will celebrate 30 years of successful community engagement and education on the Table Rocks. Public event, open to all. Guided hikes, partner displays, kids activities will be available. Parking is limited, so please consider carpooling. Additional parking is available at Sams Valley Elementary School, and a shuttle will be provided to and from the Lower Table Rock throughout the day. No registration required. Robert Kentta of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians will discuss the history and culture of ancestral tribes who were moved from the Rogue Valley and other parts of Western Oregon to the Siletz Reservation. Soda Mountain Wilderness Council hike Sunday, May 1: Ornithologist Pepper Trail will lead a hike to explore the canyons, oak parkland and gallery forests of lower Scotch and Slide creeks in the Horseshoe Ranch Wildlife Area north of Iron Gate Reservoir and just south of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, Soda Mountain Wilderness and Oregon/California border. The wildflowers should be very nice. Moderate hiking difficulty depending on the group — and some shallow stream crossings. Saturday, May 7: Southern Oregon University aquatic biologist Michael Parker will lead a very challenging, 4-mile round-trip hike along the flat Jenny Creek Rim in Oregon (elevation 3,300 feet) and then very steeply down to Jenny Creek Falls (elevation 2,700 feet) in California just south of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. Lithia Park nature walks Sunday, May 1: Starting Sunday, trained naturalists from Ashland Parks and Recreation will lead an easy 90-minute nature walk through Lithia Park at 10 a.m. each Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, rain or shine. The free walks touch on trees, flowers, birds, climate, water, geology and history of the park. Meet at the park entrance across from the Plaza in Ashland. No reservations required. Native Plant Society events Saturday, May 7: Steve Siewert from Plant Oregon will give a tour from 9 to 11 a.m. of this 40-acre nursery specializing in native and Pacific Northwest adapted trees, shrubs and plants. Plant Oregon, 8677 Wagner Creek Road, Talent, has been involved in many riparian restoration projects along the Rogue and Applegate rivers, as well as a variety of landscape remediation projects. Thursday, May 19: Stephen Meyers from the Oregon Flora Project will discuss several of the numerous species concepts and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each concept. Southern Oregon Land Conservancy hikes These free hikes may fill quickly, but SOLC encourages people to get on the waiting list, because cancellations are common. Sunday, May 8: This hike to the city of Ashland’s Imperatrice property, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be a longer and more strenuous hike than the April visit, and the group will visit the oak woodland on the ridge. Saturday, May 14: Rogue River Preserve natural history, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Naturalist Dave Garcia will lead a hike on this property north of Eagle Point. This hike will visit the property's northern river access point. Sunday, May 15: Oredson-Todd Woods ecology, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oredson-Todd Woods is a forested community gem above Ashland. Forest ecologist Tom Atzet will lead a hike in this conserved Ashland city park and share the ecology of the woods. Siskiyou Velo Club Every Saturday: Velo Melo meets at various places and rides about 20 miles at 11 to 13 mph. No one will be dropped. Call Ginny Jensen at 541-488-1398. Every Saturday: Siskiyou Velo Slo-Mo rides begin at various morning hours from different locations. Pace: 7 to 10 mph over 12 to 18 miles on mostly flat terrain. Call Ken Kelley at 541-857-6819. Every Saturday: Siskiyou Crank It Up rides begin at various morning hours from different locations; 20 to 30 miles. Pace 12 to 15 mph, varied terrain. No one will be dropped.
