Britt Festivals - Pop 2001 Afro-Cuban All Stars ... Lyle Lovett ... The Wallflowers ... Nanci Griffith ... Village People ... Kenny G ... By BILL VARBLE Tickets for the Britt Festivals' summer pop season go on sale to the public at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The good news is, as of Friday, no show is completely sold out. "We have at least lawn seating for everything," a Britt spokeswoman said. The advance sale to members took place during March and April. Britt's 2001 season comprises 46 shows from June 8 through Sept. 12 with classical, jazz, pop, folk, country and dance concerts at the Britt amphitheater in Jacksonville. The Afro-Cuban All Stars kick off the season June 8, and jazz-lite maestro Kenny G wraps it up Sept. 12. Crossover country star Lyle Lovett and soft rockers The Wallflowers are among the headliners. The Britt classical season was announced earlier. It was the original reason for the festival when it was founded 39 years ago. It runs Aug. 3 though Aug. 19 with eight concerts and several associated activities. Tickets range from a low of $18 (lawn) and $27 (reserved) for a Celtic show Aug. 30 with Solas and Great Big Sea to a high of $68 for Kenny G (Sept. 11 and 12). Reserved seats for most shows are between $30 and $50, with several shows breaking the $50 barrier (Righteous Brothers, Wallflowers, Kenny Loggins, Lyle Lovett). Several shows offer lawn admission for less than $20. Kenny Loggins (June 25 and 26) is a local favorite who drew enthusiastic crowds and unwanted attention for exceeding Britt's decibel levels. Janis Ian and Richie Havens (June 30), Brian Setzer (June 28), Riders in the Sky (June 16), Ani DiFranco (July 8), the Neville Brothers (July 26), Peter, Paul and Mary (July 28), Chuck Mangione (July 29), Nanci Griffith (Aug. 20), Indigo Girls (July 21), Robert Cray (Sept. 7) and John Prine (Sept. 1) have all drawn large, appreciative audiences in Southern Oregon in the past. Dr. John (June 15), Rickie Lee Jones (June 10), Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady (July 7), the Everly Brothers (July 20), Rodney Crowell (July 27) and Jo Dee Messina (Sept. 2) will get their nights to party. Shows for special tastes include New Age pianist Jim Brickman (June 17), the disco- marching Village People (June 22), swingers Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (June 23) and Cape Verde diva Cesaria Evora (July 6). A special show for folk lovers called Club 47 - the name of a legendary coffeehouse in Cambridge, Mass. - brings together acoustic stars David Bromberg, Patty Larkin, Tom Rush and Vance Gilbert Sept. 9.
