Martin Quintero, 52, of Tulelake, Calif. was allegedly going by the name Juan Lopez. Quintero faces two counts of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of identity theft, plus charges of first-degree kidnapping, coercion, unlawful use of a weapon and fourth-degree assault. He entered not guilty pleas to all the charges Friday and has a pre-trial conference set for Sept. 19 in Jackson County Circuit Court. Medford police began investigating on Aug. 25 when Quintero's girlfriend reported he forcibly raped her earlier that day following an argument over a cell phone. She said she fought back until her boyfriend, who she knew as Juan Lopez, allegedly held a knife to her throat and threatened to stab her. Afterward, he put the knife in his backpack, according to affidavit. Police observed bruising on the woman's arms, the affidavit said. She also told police her boyfriend had forcibly raped and choked her on Aug. 17 after an argument about a spilled water bottle, the affidavit said. Police located Quintero at a friend's house in Talent. Quintero allegedly said his name was Juan Lopez and presented an obviously forged green card with the same name, the affidavit said. A green card is an identification card showing an immigrant is living and working in the United States legally. Quintero allegedly offered conflicting stories to police in denying he had raped his girlfriend. His accounts allegedly ranged from saying he "only makes sweet love to her," to claiming she was a nymphomaniac who demanded rough sex, the affidavit said. "'Juan's' ever-changing outrageous statements led me to believe he was not being truthful," a police officer wrote in the affidavit. Quintero allegedly had scratch marks on his body that were consistent with the girlfriend fighting back. Police also seized his backpack, which held a folding knife, the affidavit said. The man was taken into custody and fingerprinted at the Jackson County Jail, where police learned his real name was Martin Quintero, the affidavit said. Quintero had warrants for his arrest out of Florida for allegedly assaulting a police officer and committing a home-invasion robbery with a weapon, the affidavit said. He is also a convicted sex offender in Florida for lewd and lascivious behavior with a child and was out of compliance with his sex offender registration requirements, the affidavit said. The description, scars, marks and tattoos for Martin Quintero matched the man arrested by Medford police who was going by the name Juan Lopez, the affidavit said.
