Moore struck out 15, walked one and hit one in a complete-game effort inside the circle. She scattered two hits and was supported by error-free defense by the Panthers (16-2, 11-2 SWC). Moore also drove in both runs in going 2-for-4, with Krystal Williams sparking each scoring effort to finish 2-for-3 with two runs scored. “Playing a competitive ballgame today like that was huge for us, especially with a big weekend ahead of us,” said South Medford head coach Miranda Gillaspie-Smith, whose team next plays at North Medford on Saturday in a key SWC clash. South Medford took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Williams singled with one out, moved to second on a sacrifice by Jeryka Johnson and scored on Moore’s RBI double. That score held up until the seventh, when Williams smacked a one-out double and, after a sacrifice by Jeweliana Burgoyne-Russell, scored when Moore beat out a bunt single. Baseball THURSTON 3, GRANTS PASS 2 : At Grants Pass, Cody Ekwall went 2-for-4 with one RBI and allowed six hits with five strikeouts and one walk in a complete-game effort for Grants Pass, which couldn’t rally from a fifth-inning deficit in the SWC contest. Thurston (9-9, 7-6 SWC) scored twice in the fifth to build a 3-1 advantage and made that hold up despite three team errors and 10 hits allowed by pitcher Cade Bates. Jaron Kroplin was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and Kadin Lopez 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Cavemen (9-9, 6-7). Savannah Greenwade paced the North Medford girls with wins in the 200 (27.00 seconds) and 400 (59.02) but Roseburg won the team competition, 90-51. South Medford’s Lela Stemple won the 800 (2:27.7) and 3,000 (11:17.8), while Logan Billy scored victories in the high jump (5-0) and triple jump (33-9¼) For the Panther boys, Kaizer Gillispie led the charge with a win in the 200 (22.61). Ashland’s Shashi Penn scored wins in the javelin (159-0) and long jump (20-3½) and Jeremiah Sherrynewby won in the pole vault (11-6) and shared first in the triple jump (38-9½) to pace the Grizzly boys. Hope Baldrica (400 and long jump) and Sydney Norvell (pole vault and triple jump) also won two events each for the Ashland girls. Cascade Christian’s Max Davis (73) was second and St. Mary’s Jeremy Wu (74) finished third. Grants Pass (328) was second as a team and St. Mary’s (333) third.
