Kathryn and Barry Thalden will lead the dedication at 10:30 a.m. at the mural, painted on the side of Sesame Asian Kitchen. "This is a wall that doesn't separate, that brings people together in joy and peace and love," Barry Thalden told the Ashland Daily Tidings in May, shortly before the work began. The Thaldens presented the idea for the mural to the city's Public Arts Commission in December 2015. In need of a design layout to receive full approval from the commission, the Thaldens traveled to Ashland's sister city Guanajuato, Mexico, and interviewed multiple mural artists. They decided on Laura Rangel Villaseñor, a self-taught artist. She has been working on the mural, called "Las Calles de Guanajuato," since late May. The Thaldens previously paid for a mural on the side of the Ashland Emergency Food Bank on Clover Lane. The muralist for that project, Denise Baxter, and Southern Oregon University students assisted with the Guanajuato project. The project was paid for by the Thaldens after Ashland City Council waived the application fee. Dignitaries from Guanajuato will be present at the dedication, according to Ann Seltzer, staff liaison for the Public Arts Commission.
