Tornado win has a stiff price SOC basketball EAGLE POINT -- North Medford scored what may have been a costly Southern Oregon Conference girls basketball victory Saturday at Eagle Point. The Black Tornado (17-5, 11-2 SOC) defeated the Eagles, 65-48, keeping pressure on front-running Ashland (16-4, 12-1) with one game left in the regular season. However, the Tornado had little cause for celebration. Junior center Tressa Manwaring sprained her left ankle as she made a move to the basket midway through the fourth quarter. North Medford coach Mike Kay said Manwaring is expected to be out a week to 10 days and will likely go in for X-rays today. Earlier in the game, Eagle Point junior point guard Stephanie Lucas was sidelined with a hyper-extended knee in the first half. North Medford led 36-23 at the half and kept the Eagles (3-17, 1-12) off-balance with its fullcourt pressure that produced 33 turnovers. The Eagles also lost leading scorer Dusty Damon when she fouled out early in the third quarter. "The really play aggressive defense," Eagle Point coach Tom McCracken said. "It's really hard to play against especially without Dusty and Stephanie." North's Ashlee Giles scored 22 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 10 steals for her second triple double of the season. Manwaring scored 11 points had had eight rebounds before she was injured. Megan Smith and Damon scored 13 points each for the Eagles. "We hung there and played pretty well," McCracken said. "A lot of time when Dusty's out, we have a tendency to let down. We didn't really fall apart tonight."
