John Peter Ham, 42, whose last known address was in the 600 block of South Columbus Avenue, died early Thursday at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford police said. Ham was taken to the hospital and treated for head injuries following an accident at the intersection of South Grape and 10th streets. Investigators say they believe Ham had been drinking in the hours preceding the 2 p.m. crash. Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said Ham’s blood-alcohol content had not been determined as of late Thursday. Police will know more after obtaining results of an autopsy, Moran said. Ham was riding his bicycle north on South Grape Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign and road directly into the path of a Toyota Corolla driven by a 65-year-old Medford man. The driver, who was headed west on 10th Street when the collision occurred, is not expected to face charges in connection with the crash, Moran said. "It appears the driver was obeying the law," he said. The case has been forwarded to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for final review. According to state court records, Ham had been convicted four times in Jackson County of misdemeanor driving under the influence of intoxicants. His driver’s license was suspended for three years following a March DUII conviction, records show.
