The Jackson County Sheriff's Department said 42-year-old Shawn May was last seen Friday, Oct. 3, around 5:30 p.m. in Prospect, where he had been doing freelance contract work. After telling his girlfriend he was going to take some back roads on his trip back into Medford, he disappeared. His girlfriend reported him missing at 6 p.m. Saturday, police said. "There's a huge section of road and area to search," said Andrea Carlson, sheriff's department spokeswoman. May is 6 feet tall and weighs around 230 pounds. He has short, dark hair and a dark goatee. He was last seen wearing camouflage fatigue-style pants and a dark-colored shirt. He drove a 1993 Buick LaSabre, light blue with a dark blue driver's side door and red tape on the tail lights. The car's license plate is Oregon TBF-359. Police said he has only lived in the area about two months and may be unfamiliar with the terrain. They added he is an avid outdoorsman and likely has taken precautionary measures like having emergency food and water with him. Deputies and search and rescue volunteers from Jackson, Josephine, Klamath and Siskiyou counties are currently combing the roads between Medford and Prospect. Hunters out and about are encouraged to keep an eye out, police said. Anyone with information about May's whereabouts should call the sheriff's office at 541-774-6800.
