All air traffic at the Medford airport came to a halt at about 6 p.m., when fog blanketed the area and made it impossible for pilots to make any approach, an airport spokesman said. A few Friday evening flights were diverted to Redmond’s airport. Travelers hoping to head home for the holidays were grounded for hours earlier Friday following the cancellation of Horizon flights from Portland to Medford late Thursday. Because the evening flights did not land, planes were not able to depart at 5 and 6 a.m. Friday morning. Several United Airlines flights to Medford from Portland and San Francisco also were delayed or canceled, stranding Rogue Valley-bound passengers in those cities. Advertisement Nearly 12 hours after arriving at Medford’s airport early Friday morning, Autumn Conley and her husband, Michael, were still waiting to board a plane to Las Vegas. She initially booked the earliest flight, due to arrive at 9 a.m. Friday, so she could make the most out of a three-day visit with family. But after booking her third flight of the day, Conley stood to arrive by 4 p.m. "I’ll still be able to have dinner with my family," said the 31-year-old Grants Pass resident, resting her bare feet on a duffel bag. Jalean Bradshaw, 54, returned to her White City home for breakfast after her 5:30 a.m. departure for San Francisco was canceled. She rode out the rest of her wait crocheting an afghan, remarking that she wouldn’t again schedule an early morning flight from Medford during the winter. Horizon bused seven passengers stranded in Portland overnight to Medford Friday afternoon because flights still were delayed that morning, said Horizon spokeswoman Jen McSkimming. "We’re doing everything we can," McSkimming said. "We have no control over the weather, but we’re trying to get people there by Christmas." A fairly common occurrence during the Rogue Valley’s winter, fog stymied air travel last weekend, too. This week’s fog had lifted enough for flights to arrive and land on schedule by 10:30 a.m. Friday. While holiday travelers met with clear road conditions Friday, a Christmas storm was expected to make for snowy conditions Saturday night. Between 4 and 10 inches of snow could fall this weekend in the Siskiyou and Cascade mountains, said meteorologists with the National Weather Service. Light snow may dust the valley’s foothills, while rain is expected on the valley floor, meteorologists said.
