Sgt. Shawn Richards from the Jackson County sheriff's marine program said the boat was found shortly after 5 p.m. along the reservoir shore under about three feet of water and about a half-mile downstream from where Charles Steven Schnell's body was found. Richards said marine officers secured the boat to the bank with a rope and will return Saturday to continue their investigation. "We'll go do an underwater investigation, then we will refloat the boat," Richards said. The boat was found in moving water about 2.5 miles upstream of Peyton Bridge, where Highway 62 crosses the reservoir in northern Jackson County. Marine crews using a Klamath County marine-patrol boat equipped with sensitive electronics spent the better part of two days scanning the reservoir bottom before discovering the boat near the shore, Richards said. Also on hand is the Oregon State Marine Board's Boat Accident Reconstruction Team, which includes a certified marine mechanic to inspect all the components of the craft, a 22-foot blue and silver 2015 Raider Pro Sport. Schnell's body, which was not sporting a personal flotation device, was found floating in the reservoir where the South Fork of the Rogue River flows into it. Schnell and his wife spent last Saturday night together on the boat, which was described as having a cabin, police said. Schnell dropped her off Sunday, and he planned to remain on the lake up to a week, with plans to call his wife twice a day on his cellphone, police said. Schnell last made phone contact with his wife Monday afternoon, and when he didn't call Wednesday morning, she notified Lost Creek Lake Marina staff who, in turn, called sheriff's deputies. Search crews found Schnell's body early Wednesday afternoon. An autopsy was conducted today but no results were immediately available, Richards said.
