However, an attorney for the farm owners is arguing the man caused his own injuries and was trespassing. In a lawsuit filed in September 2015, Justin Stranberg, 33, said he and his daughter were riding a horse together on Pioneer Road on the outskirts of Medford when the llama went under a partial fence and confronted him, his daughter and the horse in 2013. Stranberg said he placed his arms around his daughter and attempted to slide off the horse to avoid an expected confrontation between the llama and horse. When he landed, he fractured the tibia and fibula bones in his lower leg, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit claims the owners of Holleywood Farm failed to properly confine the llama with adequate fencing, failed to warn about the dangerous llama and knew or should have known the animal was dangerous to people and horses. Stranberg is seeking $32,675 for medical bills, $50,000 for future medical bills and lost earnings and $250,000 for noneconomic damages. He failed to show up for a hearing this week in Jackson County Circuit Court for the civil case. Bernard Moore, attorney for the Holleywood Farm owners, said in court documents he has tried repeatedly to contact Stranberg without success. Moore said he doesn't know where Stranberg is. Stranberg has failed to turn over documentation about his medical bills, lost wages and other information needed for the case, Moore said in documents filed with the court. Moore declined to comment about the case this week. In November 2015, Stranberg pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and no contest to a charge of refusing to take a test for intoxicants. He was supposed to report to the Jackson County Jail to serve a 20-day sentence on Dec. 1, 2015. When he failed to show up, a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to court documents. On Feb. 21, Stranberg was arrested by Medford police on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license after multiple callers reported he was driving erratically and nearly caused multiple crashes on I-5, according to an affidavit. At jail, he consented to a breath test and had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit, the affidavit alleges. Stranberg was released on Feb. 28 due to overcrowding, jail records show. He is scheduled to enter a guilty or no-contest plea in his latest DUII case on Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court. The llama civil case is scheduled to go to trial in July.
