Visitors are encouraged to start arriving at 8:30 p.m. » Social News Family members struggling to pay for five burials after a mother and her four children in west Medford were killed Monday could receive state assistance for up to $25,000 in expenses. Diana Hamilton, director of the Jackson County Victim Assistance program with the District Attorney's Office, said she is expecting to receive approval from the Oregon Crime Victims Compensation Program. "I do not see any reason why this application would not be approved," she said. The money would be used to pay for the burials of Tabasha Paige-Criado, 30, and her four children, Elijah, 7, Isaac, 6, Andrew, 5, and Aurora, 2. The father, 51-year-old Jordan Criado, is in Rogue Valley Medical Center and has been nonresponsive since he was brought in Monday morning. He needs a mechanical ventilator to breathe. A hospital spokesman said Criado's condition remained unchanged Thursday. Police suspect Criado of stabbing his family members then setting their house on fire. The family can receive up to $5,000 in burial expenses for each victim. Hamilton said the dollar amount should cover the costs to transport the victims and any expenses related to church services or other ceremonies the family might request. Jesse Adams, the 32-year-old brother of Tabasha Paige-Criado, said he was thankful to the community for helping him bring the victims' bodies back to Bakersfield, Calif., his family's hometown. "I'm overwhelmed," he said. 'On one end of the spectrum, I'm spectacularly static and joyful. On the other hand, I feel so much grief about my sister and her kids." Adams had a difficult time getting enough money to travel to Medford, but local businesses have come forward providing him and his wife, Heidi, with accommodations, meals and financial assistance. Local groups are working on setting up bank accounts so donations can be made to help the family. Mortuaries in both Medford and Bakersfield are already making arrangements for the transport of the victims, Hamilton said. She said the victims program also provides up to $20,000 toward grief counseling for a family. Hamilton said she contacted Paige-Criado's mother, Gwen Crowles, to let her know about the program. Hamilton said she tries to notify a family within 24 hours of a homicide or other serious crime. She said families are often in disbelief that such a program exists.
