No one was hurt in the 9 p.m. incident, in which the girl drove at speeds estimated at 50 to 55 mph on neighborhood side streets around Washington School, according to the Medford Police Department. "There was some crazy driving on her part," Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said Monday. "That’s pretty scary for anyone driving that speed in a congested neighborhood, let alone a 12 year old," Moran said. The case began when the girl’s mother telephoned Medford police, saying her daughter girl and her 1989 Ford Thunderbird had both disappeared from their home in the 2900 block of Table Rock Road, police said. Advertisement The mother also said $90 cash was missing from her wallet, police said. The mother told police the girl could be driving and headed toward a friend’s residence all the way across town in the Washington School neighborhood, police said. Officers were sent to that neighborhood, where the silver Thunderbird sped past them on Plum Street near Prune Street, Moran said. The car sped off as the officer turned around and gave pursuit, Moran said. The car sped down Withington Street and ran a stop sign at Withington and Hamilton streets, he said. The vehicle then almost collided with another car on Hamilton Street near West 11th Street before officers reached it, Moran said. That’s when the car stopped and the girl surrendered, he said. The girl was cited on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and attempting to elude a police officer — both felonies — as well as reckless driving, Moran said. The mother met police on Hamilton Street, where she took custody of the girl and the car, Moran said. The case will be forwarded to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, Moran said.
