Jon Allen Firehammer, 40, of Josephine County, remained in the Jackson County Jail Sunday on charges of third-degree assault, DUII alcohol, reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license, disorderly conduct, interfering with making a report and tampering with a witness. His bail was set at $48,000, according to jail records. The crash was reported at 7:10 p.m. in the 100 block of North River Road. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported Firehammer lost control of his Dodge Dakota pickup and drove into the oncoming lane of traffic. His vehicle slammed into a Ford Mustang driven by Kaylene Streight. Streight's son was injured in the crash. The toddler was transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center with serious injuries before being flown to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, according to a sheriff's department news release. His condition was not available. Streight was not injured, police said. The case remains under investigation, but based on evidence gathered thus far, police believe Firehammer was under the influence at the time of the crash.
