Body found along Umpqua River was a woman Thursday Oct 13, 2016 at 12:45 PM Oct 13, 2016 at 12:45 PM The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said a body found Oct. 1 by a fisherman along the Umpqua River near Gardiner belonged to a woman, but so far they don't know much else about her. Preliminary findings from the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office said the woman was likely between the ages of 30 and 45, but due to the advanced state of decomposition of the partial remains, height, weight and ethnicity are unknown. It is believed the woman has been dead for one to three years, according to press release from the sheriff's office. The Medical Examiner will attempt to identify the body through the use of DNA and dental records, but the process will likely take a significant amount of time, the sheriff's office said. If anyone has information on missing persons who fit the limited description, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office wants them to call 541-440-4471 and ask to speak with Chief Deputy Medical Examiner Craig Kinney.
