Budget cut consequences With all the talk by Republicans about the need to cut the budget deficit drastically, there is no discussion about the effects of large reductions in the federal budget on the economy. Large cuts in the federal budget would cause greater reduction in the Gross National Product (GNP), the loss of millions of jobs with further losses of tax revenues. Any recovery would cease. Tax receipts would decrease, thus increasing the deficit rather than reducing it. Just the opposite of what is desired. The economies of Greece, Ireland and Great Britain all are decreasing because of such measures of fiscal austerity. If there is no rescinding the Bush tax cuts, there is no hope of balancing the budget ever. (Republicans refuse to discuss taxes.) If the public understood the dire consequences of huge reductions in the federal budget, they might not be so enthusiastic in supporting those in Congress who do. — Frank R. We found that a stray mother cat and her new six kittens were living under our office building. We made sure they had food and water, but as they got older we had no idea what to do with this cat family. We contacted the SNYP group and they helped with information on how to catch these untamed cats step-by-step. After several calls we were able to catch the kittens while still young enough to tame. And I am happy to say we found homes for all. And with SNYP's help we were able to get a discount to have all the kittens spayed and neutered. Sjothun, Medford This is a plea for your help to Save Our Rural Oregon, a group of concerned Klamath Falls citizens, to not allow the building of a huge biomass plant in the middle of the scenic Klamath River Basin along the Klamath River, which would give us a worse rap than already identifies us. This area is one of pristine farmland and views of the Klamath River, Mount Shasta, the Lava Beds National Monument mountains, and risks the loss of a Pacific Migratory Bird Flyway (one of the largest in the U.S). The plant and its operations and diesel fuel trucks will degrade the already bad air quality of nearby suburbs and all of our community because of its upwind location and its size, and will risk the ruining the health of our community. In the long term, our economically depressed community will not be able to attract new, clean industry, retirees and tourists. Finally, there are all the other environmental impacts of biomass, such as impacts on our wildlife, fish, birds and the devastation of our forests.
