Emergency Services ... Burglary suspect took shower, nap, gun, but left his name with neighbors Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Feb. 22, 2016 at 2:23 PM Posted Feb. 22, 2016 at 2:23 PM » Social News Medford police are on the lookout for a burglar who broke into a Barnett Road apartment and made himself at home, taking a shower, drinking beer, eating food, taking a nap in the resident's bed and even chatting with neighbors who asked who he was and what he was doing there. Investigators suspect he gave his real name to neighbors, but he lives out of the area and probably has left town, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said. "We have positively identified him, but he isn't local," Budreau said, explaining that police will try to get a warrant for the burglary suspect, then hope law enforcement elsewhere runs into him. A Medford man reported that his apartment in the 2300 block of East Barnett Road was burglarized Friday while he was out all day, roughly from 8:30 a.m to 8 p.m. He told police his front door was locked, but he thought he left a sliding door on a second-floor balcony unlocked. He speculated that the burglar climbed a tree to reach the unlocked door, Budreau said. As the interloper spent the day at the apartment, neighbors who didn't expect to see anyone coming and going there confronted him, Budreau said. He told them that he was a friend of the resident. He talked with the neighbors for more than an hour during the afternoon and gave them details to connect with him on Facebook. Police confirmed that the apartment resident didn't know the burglary suspect identified through Facebook. However, the suspect appeared to know the resident's schedule well enough to know that he would be out all day. The burglar reportedly took a GSG 522 .22-caliber rifle with a high-capacity drum magazine, police said.
