Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 16, 2005 Troopers nab two homicide suspects Off-duty officers got suspicious when the driver of a big-ticket BMW tried to mooch gas money at a service station near Roseburg Two Oregon State Police troopers arrested three Seattle homicide suspects outside Roseburg after one of the wanted men approached them asking for gas money. Senior troopers Nick Neville and Brandon Boice — both of whom work out of OSP’s Central Point office — were returning Thursday morning from a S.W.A.T operation in the Willamette Valley when they decided to stop for gas off Interstate 5 about 21 miles north of Roseburg, OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings said in a news release. The troopers were approached by one of three men who were riding in a 2002 BMW 325 with Washington license plates. The man asked senior trooper Neville for gas money. The troopers, who were in civilian clothes and driving an unmarked Ford Expedition, thought it odd that someone driving such a posh car had to beg for gas money. They radioed OSP dispatch, requesting a check on the BMW. They learned the car had been stolen from a Seattle-area homicide scene. Troopers from the Roseburg Area Command office responded and assisted in taking the men into custody, Hastings said. The suspects were lodged in the Douglas County Jail. They were then questioned by arriving Seattle detectives about their possible involvement in the homicide. According to Seattle media reports, a man’s body was found Wednesday in a burnt-out building. Detectives determined the man had been murdered and his car was taken from the scene, Hastings said.
