And it wasn’t pleasant for the second-year Crusader girls basketball coach. After losing its first four Southern Cascade League games, St. Mary’s appeared to be on its way to a second conference victory in two nights. But after building an 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter, the Crusaders tired down the stretch and suffered a frustrating 55-50 home loss to Riddle Saturday. "About two minutes into the fourth quarter, it looked like we were going to pull it off," said Zappas. "I thought we were going to get our second league win. It was a nightmare watching it unfold." Behind the play of Trinity Gibbons and forward Joelle Riekeman, the Irish rallied to pull even at 46-all with about two minutes left in the contest. Riddle then outscored the Crusaders 9-4 down the stretch. Gibbons, a sophomore point guard, had 10 of her 19 points in the final period, while Riekeman scored 13 of her game-high 20 points after intermission. Sophomore forward Brittany Farrer paced the Crusaders (5-6, 1-5 SCL) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Britta Beckstead added 11 points and Alex Tomlinson chipped in six points and eight rebounds.
