White City man jailed after chase By Jill Briskey A White City man who burst into a Medford church barefoot and wanting help Tuesday led police on a foot-chase that ended with the recovery of a stolen vehicle. Jimmy Donald Bailey Jr., 26, of 2812 Leyden Circle, was arrested by Medford police in the back yard of a home at 3061 Arthur Ave., a residence he had broken into during the chase, Lt. Tim George said. Medford police first responded after a call came in from Table Rock Fellowship at 4610 N. Pacific Highway about a disoriented man in the lobby. Church officials told police the man had requested a change of clothing, claiming that he was "in trouble." "They were suspicious," George said. "He certainly wasn�t clothed correctly for the conditions." An officer was attempting to speak with Bailey in the church parking lot, George said, when Bailey apparently shoved the officer and ran back into the church, where he picked up a chair and threatened the officer. George said Bailey, still barefoot, ran outside, fleeing east across a field over a fence topped with barbed wire and into a home on Arthur Avenue through an unlocked back door, where he picked up a golf club. The standoff ended in arrest after Bailey ran outside and threatened officers with the golf club, George said. Bailey had cuts and abrasions from his flight, and one officer cut his finger in a fence while pursuing him, George said. "He was under the influence when this happened," George said, adding that Bailey is suspected of using methamphetamine. A search of Bailey�s residence revealed a small amount of methamphetamine and a stolen 1978 Chevrolet. Bailey was lodged in jail on $65,000 bail and charged with possession of methamphetamine, harassment, first-degree trespassing, resisting arrest, five counts of menacing, disorderly conduct, first-degree burglary, possession of methamphetamine and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. A charge of third-degree criminal mischief was added when the golf club used to menace officers was broken, George said. Court records show that Bailey has been in trouble before. In addition to numerous counts of violating probation, Bailey pleaded guilty to harassment in 1993. In 1994, he pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. In a separate case, Bailey admitted to charges of first-degree criminal trespass, third-degree theft and second-degree theft. In 1995, Bailey admitted to giving police false information and driving while suspended. In 1996, he pleaded guilty to altering his license plates and driving while uninsured and suspended.
