Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend April 27, 2006 Medford woman killed by truck on Interstate 5 A 42-year-old homeless Medford woman was struck and killed early Wednesday by a semi truck on Interstate 5 near Exit 27. Oregon State Police are looking for the truck, which was headed south on the freeway. Georgia Lee Webb and her husband, Marlin Cecil Webb, were walking north on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of the interstate at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when the truck hit Georgia Webb, OSP Lt. Brian Powers said. The couple had slept under a nearby bridge on Bear Creek and they were approaching the on-ramp at Exit 27, Marlin Webb told police. The police report said the crash spun Georgia Webb around, knocked her through the air and left her lying near the fog line. Passers-by reported an injured woman at the roadside. Emergency medical crews rushed to the crash scene, but couldn't revive Georgia Webb. The truck was described as a blue, conventional truck tractor towing a box semi trailer. Callers who reported the victim lying near the fog line also said they saw a truck stopped on the freeway shoulder south of the scene. The truck's driver got out, started to walk toward the victim, then got back in the truck and continued south, police said. Witnesses said the truck may have had "Northern Trucking Company" written on the side of the truck cab. Police have asked California Highway Patrol, local police and transportation department officials to watch for the truck, Powers said. The on-ramp at Exit 27 was briefly closed and freeway traffic slowed while emergency workers were at the scene. Anyone who spots the truck or has other information about the crash can call Oregon State Police Southern Communications Center at 776-6111.
