Celebrating wine in 2022 By Paula Bandy Jan 05, 2022 12:00 AM A A As my second year of slinging wine words rolls around, I just want to say thanks to all of you who read Through the Grapevine. To those of you who have reached out to me with comments and questions, I love hearing from you. My intent is to bring knowledge, inspiration and a touch of humor to your wine experiences. I’ve edited the annual wine calendar this year for more focus on locally produced wines. Wine is for sharing — may you all find beauty-filled ways to share wine in 2022. January 10 - Champagne & French Fries Day - Second annual celebration started by Unraveling Wine. February 14 - Wine Lover’s Day 16 - International Syrah Day 18 - Global Drink Wine Day - So much wine, so little time. Drink up. 26 - Open That Bottle Night - The one you’ve been saving for that special time, this is it. Pop it. March 1 - Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras - Pair chenin blanc, gewürztraminer or pinot gris with Cajun seafood, or pinot noir and zinfandel with Creole tomato dishes. 3 - Mulled Wine Day 13 - International Riesling Day April 14 - Tannat Day 17 - World Malbec Day - The Rogue Valley offers several distinctive malbecs. July 4 - U.S. Sparkling Day - Here’s to your favorite American sparkling wine. 14 - Bastille Day, known in France as la Fête Nationale. 19-25 - National Prosecco Week - Enjoy these famous Italian bubbles, now in white and pink 25 - National Wine & Cheese day - Picnic, picnic August 1-5 - International Albariño Days 4 - National White Wine Day - Think chill, one white wine at a time. 4 - Official Mead Day 13 - Celebrate Prosecco Day 18 - International Pinot Noir Day - Think global, drink local. 28 - National Red Wine Day September 1 - International Cabernet Day 10 - International Port Wine Day - Fortify yourself 16 - International Grenache Day October 6 -12 - Drink Local Wine Week - Time for a Southern Oregon wine safari. 6 - Orange Wine Day - Orange is the new rosé. 8 - International Pinotage Day 28 - Global Champagne Day - Let’s hear it for the fizz.
