Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend July 30, 2005 Grenade found in car trunk at Medford hotel A Medford hotel was partially evacuated Friday morning after police found a grenade in the trunk of a car, police said. Medford police responded to an assault call at the Reston Inn at the 2200 block of Biddle Road. When they arrived the man who had made the call told them that his friend had assaulted him and had a bomb in the trunk of his car, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. Police evacuated several rooms near the car. Moran then called in a detective from the Oregon State Police bomb squad, who searched the trunk and found a live grenade and a smoke bomb. Jesse L. James, 49, of Ajo, Ariz., was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a destructive device and possession of methamphetamine. Police also charged James with possession of a weapon by a felon when they found a .380 caliber handgun belonging to him. He was lodged in Jackson County Jail, where he remained late Friday on $30,000 bail. Police found that the man who had made the initial call had an out-of-state warrant for his arrest. Matthew Leonard True, 27, of Nevada City, Calif., was arrested on a California warrant for writing bad checks. He was lodged in jail, and later transported to California.
