Jimmy Dean Herrera, 68, was driving a blue 2003 GMC Yukon XL south on Highway 62 just before 11 a.m. when he slowed suddenly to turn in to the Cascade Gorge Store. His wife, Marie Herrera, 69, was following in a white 2004 Pontiac van. Her vehicle hit the back of the Yukon, and it left the road and rolled over, a police report said. Jimmy Herrera died in the crash. Both vehicles belonged to a Bend-area car dealership, OSP Lt. Tanya Henderson said. Advertisement The Herreras were delivering the Yukon to a buyer in California and planned to return home in the van. The van and the Yukon were both totaled, Henderson said. An ambulance took Marie Herrera to Rogue Valley Medical Center with relatively minor injuries, police said. She was so upset it was difficult for crews to evaluate her condition at the roadside, Henderson said. Hospital officials said she was treated at the emergency room, then released to stay at Francis Cheney Family Place, where the hospital provides inexpensive rooms for people from out of town while they or family members are treated at Rogue Valley Medical Center. In addition to state police, Jackson County sheriff’s office, Jackson County Fire District No. 4, Prospect Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the crash.
