These guys are nothing but a bunch of reactionary thugs with guns called upon to support a special interest that is probably abusing public land. To support them is a black eye for Josephine County. John Hamilton Ashland Thanks for editorial Thank you, MT, for the very good editorial April 22, "Raises for Jackson County officials — again." I've been very angry with our county leaders since 2008, when they chose to pay themselves and other managers those large salary increases. I blamed C.W. Smith for those. Then, of course, they could no longer pay for the libraries, so we had to tax ourselves more in order to keep the doors open. Since some, if not all commissioners have other jobs or businesses, it makes one wonder if the position is really full-time (i.e., 40 hours a week). The one person who will get my vote (if she runs again) is Colleen Roberts. She is the only one who has shown any fiscal integrity. Juanita Larson Prospect Avoid the rush It may become critically important that we save water by showering every other day, irrigating once every three days, washing our cars at the car wash (recycled water), and daily draining off and collecting four or five gallons of water in order to get hot water early a.m. and late p.m. The most important reason that water is becoming an even more precious resource is because of the serious drought in the Northwest and California. These simple changes each and every day does result in a significant reduction in water usage. For sure, collecting water does take a little extra work; but it saves 35 gallons of water per week or over a 100 gallons a month. If the drought continues several years, we could see a drastic reduction in the prolific food production of California that could affect us all. Why not choose these simple water-saving strategies before the city, county, or the state mandate very strict water usage with violators receiving very large fines. Is it not in all our interest to change now, and avoid the rush later?
