Atanda, a senior outside hitter who wasn’t even a part of SOU’s regular rotation in 2013, transformed into a go-to player and the Cascade Collegiate Conference’s leader in kills this season. She helped the Raiders to a regular season conference co-title, a 24-7 record and their eighth all-time NAIA tournament appearance. The explosive 5-foot-8 product of San Jose, Calif., averaged 4.3 kills pet set in CCC action and 4.1 overall. She also posted 2.5 digs and 0.5 blocks per set, going for double-digit kills and digs in the same match on 13 occasions. She had 10-plus kills in 17 consecutive matches, racking up a career-high 24 in just four sets of work on Nov. 8 at Warner Pacific. Her season high as a junior was four kills. With 458 total kills (on a .198 average that climbed to .218 in conference play), she ranked seventh in SOU single-season history. Atanda is the 16th Raider to land on the All-American team or earn honorable mention. Amy Weststeyn of Biola was named the player of the year. Football SEATS AVAILABLE: Southern Oregon University has seats for sale on its charter flight to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the NAIA championship game Dec. 19. The flight leaves Monday and returns after the game Saturday. The cost is $500. Travelers will be responsible for ground transportation, food and game tickets. SOU is also asking for donations to the Raider Club from those who can’t make the trip to help defray costs. The NAIA pays for only a portion of the teams’ travel expenses.
