Richey finds groove, Hix gets concussion at speedway WHITE CITY � Jeremy Richey found the line and stayed on it all night at the Southern Oregon Speedway on Saturday. The Phoenix driver swept the action in the pro stocks, winning the trophy dash and the 25-lap main event. Division leader Frank Word III was involved in a pile-up late in the race but still managed to finish 16th to collect valuable points as the season winds down to its final two weeks. Brad Alfrey, second to Word in the points, was second to Richey in the feature on Saturday. The finish pulls Alfrey within 12 points of Word (727-715) heading into next week�s action. A serious accident marred the 20-lap dwarf car feature as Steve Hix suffered a multiple rollover before his car came to rest. Hix was temporarily knocked unconscious and had to be cut from his car but was not seriously injured. Points leader Jon DeBenedetti took the lead before the accident and held it when action resumed, cruising to the checkered flag for the seventh time in 2000. A new face made his way to victory lane in the winged modifieds. Steven Croucher, who started the night 11th in the points, took the lead on the 19th lap and took the checkered in the 25-lap event. Jim Hill became the first driver at the Speedway to reach double digits in feature victories in 2000, taking his 10th of the season. Hill took the lead late in the race and tied the track record for feature wins for a mini stock in the process. Harvey Foster earned his fourth win of the season in the super trucks. Defending class champion John Wayne Cahill took over from early leader John Kreftmeyer on the 10th lap and held the top spot until Foster moved ahead on lap 13 and completed the final two laps in front for the win. Points leader Patrick Lanigan was slowed by a mishap early in the race and finished fourth in the feature. Racing continues Saturday night, including the fifth annual Lon Skinner Memorial 50 for the winged modifieds. The main event will feature $1,000 to the winner and is expected to draw drivers from several tracks. Gates open at 4 p.m. with races starting at 6.
