Jeremiah James Haynes, 37, and Eduardo Luis Ramos, 26, both of Crescent City, are in the Jackson County Jail with no bail on charges of first-degree robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude, unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm, according to jail records. Both also are wanted for parole violations in Del Norte County, and Ramos is wanted in Lane County for giving false information to police, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported. At 5 a.m. Thursday, sheriff's deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Riley Road near Eagle Point. Deputies arrived to see Haynes and Ramos fleeing in separate vehicles. They had arrived in a Jeep SUV, but Haynes reportedly stole a Ford Focus from the driveway of a residence and took off in that while Ramos fled in the Jeep. No one was hurt by the gunshots, police said. The stolen Focus was found abandoned in the driveway of a home in the 17000 block of Highway 62. Deputies found Haynes about a mile away after a report of a suspicious person. Ramos led police on a 100-mile chase, which ended when the Jeep ran out of gas on Highway 138 near Diamond Lake. He ran from the vehicle and into the North Umpqua River. Jackson and Douglas county sheriff's deputies and Oregon State Police troopers eventually caught and arrested him.
