Libraries close for computer upgrade By PETER WONG The Medford and Ashland libraries will close all next week and open fewer hours Dec. 20 and 21 while the Jackson County Library System installs a new computerized catalog. To help patrons during the transition, the Central Point, Phoenix and Talent branches will be open longer Dec. 13-17. The installation will require new wiring, terminals, software and other equipment in all branches. The Polaris catalog will enable Jackson County patrons to search for and request books and other materials not only from the county's collections but from libraries in Josephine and Klamath counties and Rogue Community College. Of the 15 libraries in the Jackson County system, closure times have been announced for 11: Medford headquarters : Closed Dec. 13-18; open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 20 and 21; open regular hours 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23. Ashland branch : Closed Dec. 13-18; open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 20 and 21; open regular hours 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23. Central Point branch : Open 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 13; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 14 and 15; 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 16; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 18.
