Reserves lift South past Highlanders With his starters unable to pull away from North Eugene, South Medford coach Dennis Murphy turned to his bench for a little spark in the third quarter. Led by Boomer Marshall, Pat Lower and Alan Johnson, the backups did just that in helping the Panthers rally past the Highlanders for a 65-52 non-conference boys basketball victory Saturday. With Lower and Johnson providing yeomans work on defense, Marshall took the offensive reins in scoring all eight of his points during a key stretch in the third quarter to resuscitate Souths hopes. "Boomer gave us a huge lift off the bench in the third quarter," said Murphy. "He played real well and did a great job." With the tide turned, South (3-1) outscored North Eugene 26-15 in the final stanza to keep the Highlanders at bay. "In the fourth quarter, we shot and defended the ball better and consequently went ahead of them," said Murphy. Eric Fiegi paced South with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Ryan Heil chipped in 20 points and four assists, while Marshall also added six rebounds. NORTH EUGENE (52) Kinports 20, Conttrell 4, Kehot-Thompson 9, C. Garcia 0, Christianson 11, Johnson 3, R.
