Prep wrestling Crater unbeaten after Day 1 of tournament FRESNO, Calif. -- The Crater Comets had an impressive opening day in the 20-team Clovis West Shootout wrestling tournament on Friday. The Comets, ranked fifth in a national poll, went 5-0 in the dual-meet format against California schools. Crater will wrestle five more duals in today's concluding round. "We looked a lot more aggressive than Wednesday night," said Crater coach Greg Haga, referring to a Southern Oregon Conference victory over North Medford. "We did a good job on top. A lot of guys opened up and just wrestled." The Comets cruised past Merced 53-15, Firebaugh 61-3, Monache of Porterville 64-6, Roosevelt from Fresno 72-0 and Turlock 65-7. Crater had six wrestlers win five matches and three of them won all their matches by fall.
