The big movies opening this week are “Interstellar,” the highly anticipated movie from Christopher Nolan starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway; and “Big Hero 6,” a PG animated film from Disney. 2. Saturday is Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day. We’re not sure why this “holiday” exists, but it’s as good a reason as any to break out the garlic and onions and anything else bold and pungent you like to cook with but your family rebels against. Get everyone involved, too, for added for. 3. Friday is the beginning of Dear Santa Letter Week, a time to write those letters to Santa for Christmas. Have your kids write out what they want, and/or cut out pictures or draw their wants, too. It’s a good time to get crafty - Santa loves it! 4. If you haven’t taken down the Halloween decorations, this is the weekend to do it. And then start decorating for Thanksgiving! You can have kids make turkeys using their hand prints, or collect leaves to make special projects. Get creative! 5. In sports, we now have the NBA regular season, NASCAR’s playoffs, NHL regular season, football and MLS playoffs. Check your TV listings for more information.
