Author to speak at forum ASHLAND -- Norman Solomon, author and nationally syndicated columnist, will be the keynote speaker for the annual Ashland Daily Tidings First Amendment Forum. The forum is set at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus. Admission is free. Winner of the 1999 George Orwell Award for Contribution to Honesty and Clarity in Public Language for his book, "The Habits of Highly Deceptive Media," Solomon is also the co-author of "Wizards of Media Oz: Behind the Curtain of Mainstream News," "Through the Media Looking Glass" and "Unreliable Sources: A Guide to Detecting Bias in News Media." Solomon's opinion pieces have appeared in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Newsday, New York Times, Boston Globe, Miami Herald, USA Today, Philadelphia Inquirer and Baltimore Sun. His "Media Beat" column appears in the Ashland Daily Tidings. The event is cosponsored by the Daily Tidings and SOU. The forum was founded by the Mail Tribune as a seminar and lecture series.
