Mazama floored Hidden Valley, 10-0, behind pitcher Matt Starley’s one-hitter and completed the sweep with a 17-4 rout in the second game. Both games ended after five innings under the 10-run rule. "We were both 3-0 (in the conference) going into the game," Mazama coach Jeff Sturgeon said, "but we knew if we played focused and got two from them, it would put us in pretty good shape. I think we were ready mentally today." Starley pitched a no-hitter against Illinois Valley last week, and followed up with another impressive outing to shut down the Mustangs (5-2, 3-2 Skyline). In the first game, Mazama (7-3, 5-0) broke out early with two runs in the first inning and two more in the second for a 4-0 lead out of the gate. The Vikings blew it wide open with an eight-run scoring effort in the fourth. Justin Nelson had two hits and three RBIs for the Vikings, while Dallas Hubble and Ryan McGraw each added two RBIs. Hidden Valley pitcher Tyler Mason was hit in the helmet with a pitch and was taken to the Merle West Hospital by ambulance. Further information on his condition was not available. In the second game, the Vikings scored in every inning and delivered the final blow with a seven-run fourth inning to win going away.
